Even though I hardly read Vogue anymore... okay, I didn't inform everybody that my lack of interest for Vogue was starting to take over, but I just feel its been in the same old direction. I love the editorials, but the reading material is not for me. I connect more with ELLE, and Instyle, and my favorite V Magazine. But for Vogue its either Beyonce or Lady Gaga has to be the main cover story, if not, I'm not really interested. In lighter news, Thandie Newton, a very talented black actress stated in an interview with Pride magazine, that the fashion magazine Vogue features less black celebrities and models on the cover. Actually Newton stated:
"Don't get me started on black people being on the cover of big magazines. It's so preposterous. I mean, I've been on the cover of Harper's Bazaar four times; I've been on the cover of InStyle four times, but Vogue, not once. And people say to me, I mean literally, people have said to me, 'What have you got against Vogue that you don't want to be on their cover?' And I just laugh. [Vogue] don't feel the need to represent because it doesn't make any sense to them." The 31-year-old actress had previously openly talked about race, dedicating her time to various charities and causes over the matter. She had previously stated that she was 'bitter' that she had compete against actresses such as Halle Berry for leading black female roles in Hollywood. Newton added: "It's just baffling to me, but as usual America will dictate the ways things go and a magazine like Vogue will just follow America."Hmm.. very interesting! Any thoughts? She do have a point! I would actually love to see a cover with a group of amazing blacks on one cover... just a thought. Vogue latest covers that features blacks... not a huge list, but hey... its a start. Beyonce, Michelle Obama, Halle Berry, Jennifer Hudson…and the latest Rihanna.
